Iva Barbosa is one of the most talented portuguese clarinetists of her generation, and has been winner of all importante national competition as well as several international awards.
She began her musical studies with her father, studying later in Porto with Adam Wierzba and António Saiote, and attended several masterclasses with important clarinetist such as: Guy Deplus, Michel Arrignon, Philippe Cuper, Enrique Perez Piquer, Stephane Hascöet, Alain Damiens, Philippe Berrod, José Luís Estellés e Larry Combs.
She was awarded in many competitions. Her highlights are: 1st Prize in “XII Interpretation Competition of Estoril /Prémio El Corte Inglês”, 2nd Prize in International “Young Artist Competition” , Utah, EUA, 2nd Prize in International “Villa de Montroy” Clarinet competition”, Valencia, Spain;1st Prize Young Revelation of “Rotay International “; 1st Prize in Young Musitian Competition of Portuguese National Radio; Conductor “Silva Pereira” Award; Semifinalist in International “Prague Spring Competition”; 1st Prize in the “ First International Clarinet Competition of Porto” .
She has an intense activity with several Orchestras and different Chamber music ensembles, playing in countries such as Portugal, Spain, China, Japan, Belgian, Canadá and Italy.
As a teacher she is regularly invited to teach in masterclasses all around Portugal.
Presently is Pedagogical director of Metropolitana Professional School of Music, and plays regularly with Oporto Symphonic Orchestra, Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra and Gulbenkian Orchestra.
She is a founding member member of Quarteto Vintage.
Iva is a Buffet Crampon soloist and plays with “Vintage” clarinets.
